Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Chronlines ("Chronlines", "we", "us") lets you make timelines of anything and share them. Chronlines is operated by Glenn Rumfellow in Louisiana, USA, until Chronlines LLC is formed. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Your history is not our product: we don't sell your personal information and we don't show ads.

What we collect

  • Account information. Your email address, an optional display name, and your sign-in method. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication); we never see or store them. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
  • Your content. Timelines, events, descriptions, tags, sources and images you upload, plus settings such as visibility, colors and category.
  • Preferences. Things that make the app work the way you left it, such as your last zoom level on each timeline.
  • Usage information. If product analytics are enabled, we record which features are used (for example "an event was created" or "a share link was copied"). These records never contain your timeline text, search terms, email address or other free text. Analytics run without cookies unless you agree to them.
  • Technical information. Our hosting and database providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type and request times) to run and secure the service.

How we use it

  • To provide the service: store your timelines, show them to the people you choose, and keep you signed in.
  • To send account emails, such as email verification and password reset.
  • To keep the service safe: prevent abuse, enforce our Acceptable Use Policy, and respond to legal requests.
  • To improve the product using aggregated, privacy-preserving usage information.

Who can see your timelines

Every timeline has a visibility setting that you control:

  • Private: only you, plus anyone you invite.
  • People you invite: you can share a private timeline with up to 10 people by email address. Each of them has to sign in with that address and confirm it before the timeline opens for them. They can view it but not edit it, and they don't see who else it's shared with. We store the addresses you invite so we can let those people in; only you can see that list. You can remove anyone at any time.
  • Public: anyone can find and view it. During the beta, only Chronlines can publish public timelines.

New timelines are private. Timelines in the Trash are private, even to people you invited. Please don't put other people's private information on timelines you share without their permission.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run Chronlines. They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments:

  • Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): hosting, sign-in, database and file storage, in the United States.
  • PostHog: product analytics, only if enabled, configured as described above.
  • Anthropic: if we offer AI features in the future, the text you send to them will be processed by Anthropic to produce results. We will update this policy before launching such features.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or as part of a transfer of the business (in which case this policy continues to apply).

How long we keep it

  • Your content stays until you delete it. Timelines you move to the Trash can be restored for 30 days and may then be deleted permanently.
  • When you delete your account, we delete your account, timelines, events and images. Copies in backups and logs are removed on their normal schedule.

Your choices and rights

  • Export: download all your timelines and events at any time from your account (JSON).
  • Delete: delete events, timelines, or your whole account from inside the app.
  • Access and correction: you can see and edit everything you've added. Contact us for anything else.

Depending on where you live (for example under the Louisiana Data Privacy Act, other US state laws, or the GDPR), you may have additional rights, such as to know what we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of certain processing. We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. To make a request, email support@chronlines.com.

Children

Chronlines is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 and don't offer student accounts. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by strict database rules, and administrative access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you as required by law.

Changes

We'll update this page when our practices change and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
